Please join us for the Eleventh Annual Family Business Institute in Portland, Oregon. The program is scheduled for May 19 on the beautiful campus of the Lewis & Clark Law School.
Family business owners will be delighted to know that this year’s featured family business speaker will be from Stahlbush Island Farms in Corvallis, part of Oregon’s lush Willamette Valley. Bill and Karla Chambers started their sustainable family farm with two crops and about 300 acres in 1985. Today, the farm includes 5,000 acres and offers a wide variety of fresh and individually quick frozen fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes to consumers, restaurants and manufacturers. It has about 250 full-time employees and ships products throughout the United States and to approximately 15 other countries.
Among the issues important to the Chambers family are food safety, soil health, water conservation, sustainability, wildlife habitat and biodiversity, and social responsibility as it relates to employee wellbeing. Using plant byproducts, the farm generates electricity in its own biogas plant. The Chambers were presented with the 2014 Dean’s Family Business Leadership Award from Oregon State University’s Austin Family Business Program.
We look forward to you joining us for this special event.
