Impacts of the American Taxpayer Relief Act on Family-Owned Businesses

In the spring of 2013, PFBI conducted a survey of Pacific Northwest family businesses to focus on the impact of the recent changes in federal estate taxes that resulted from the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012.

Specific goals included the following:

  • To understand how regional family-owned businesses anticipated preparing for the December 31, 2012 deadline
  • To identify which actions regional family-owned businesses actually undertook
  • To understand how regional family-owned businesses were affected by those actions.
